Case of Interest: Midshaft Fracture of the Femur in a Dog
Repaired with a 1/3 Tubular Plate

Surgical Procedure

The fracture was reduced, and a 1/3-tubular plate lightly contoured and applied to the antero-lateral aspect of the femur using 2.0mm X 2.7mm cortex screws seated eccentrically. We had used these plates in 3 cats with transverse fractures of the femur with good results. We find that they fit well, and require less soft tissue dissection than that which is necessary for heavier implants. We felt the implant would be adequate in this small, fine-boned, mild-mannered dog.
